Autrefois, repaire de flibustiers et immense réservoir de granit pour les remparts de Saint-Malo, l’archipel de Chausey est devenu, à la belle saison, un espace apprécié des amateurs de sites naturels. Le mayennais Marin-Marie, navigateur et peintre officiel de la Marine à partir de décembre 1935, considérait Chausey comme son port d’attache ; dans sa maison aux volets bleus, surnommée la maison du capitaine, Marin-Marie disposait d’un atelier tourné vers le Sound.
The archipelago of the Îles Chausey, with the highest tides in Europe, lies to the north of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel (Manche, Normandy, France). The Grande Île, the only island inhabited by around thirty islanders, lies just over 15 km off Granville. Once a haven for freebooters and a huge reservoir of granite for the ramparts of Saint-Malo, the Chausey archipelago has become a popular destination for nature lovers in the summer months. Marin-Marie from Mayenne, navigator (and official painter to the Navy from December 1935), considered Chausey his home port ; in his house with the blue shutters, nicknamed the captain’s house, Marin-Marie had a studio facing the Sound.
